Circulating via email, the text of a speech allegedly given by Bill Gates in which he sets out 11 rules of life for today's high school students
BILL GATES' SPEECH TO MT. WHITNEY HIGH SCHOOL in Visalia, California.
Love him or hate him, he sure hits the nail on the head with this! To anyone with kids of any age, here's some advice. Bill Gates gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.
Rule 1: Life is not fair - get used to it!
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping - they called it opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
A connect-the-dot face has a girlfriend and I go to movies alone. Is that fair? All I know is the Count of Monte Cristo never got his ass kicked by a girl. For a marriage to end, someone usually had to die.Friendships were as important as neighborhood loyalty. Your friends gave you an identity and a sense of belonging. They afforded you a group you could trust that extended beyond the bounds of family.Good things and bad. Goin’ in, you never know which one you’re gonna find. Always be prepared for both. And most of the time, bet on the bad.I will do my best not to fail you and not to fail to find the truth. I will do my best to seek justice. And I know you will to.-It’s the sheep that strays that you most want back.-It’s not too late, Father. We still have a chance to bring in a couple of stray sheep. One last chance.-Is that one chance legal?-Last chances never are.Just be glad you’re going home, Shakes. Forget everything else.-Only the baddest apples do full runs.-Or end up dead. You ate eel? On your own? I mean, without nobody havin’ a gun on you?You gotta stay tough to be tough. Guys smell it when you’re weak. Eat you like a salad. You want your witness to have one hand raised in court. Not two.

This is an e-mail from my friend Pauline (name changed to protect identity) about her mishaps in a certain public high school she's working at.
Background: Pauline did not attend public school in her primary or secondary education. Except in college, of course, she was my classmate in a government-supported university. It's her first time to teach in public high, as a professional. As an intern, she taught in Rizal High School.
this is her e-mail:
***No, thanks. Ayoko pang tumanda.

"It's easier to like someone who likes you too, than one who doesn't."
| | | I Mga Taga-Corinto 10:13 |
words & music by Meno Augustine Sebastiano All localities have their QUAT E. I. E. I. O. And a QUAT-QUAT here And a QUAT-QUAT there Here QUAT, there QUAT Everywhere a QUAT-QUAT All localities have their QUAT E. I. E. I. O.
** When i first heard Meno sing this what he called QUAT Hymn (with his right hand on his chest!) i laughed so hard my appendix dropped. I swear, Meno never runs out of humor. I don't think i'll ever hear him speak without a punch line, and it just comes out of him naturally.

Michael: You know, Butter, you're not as dumb as you look
John: But he is as ugly as he looks. It's like hangin' out with that guy with the bells
Michael: What guy with the bells?
Shakes: The Hunchback of Notre Dame
John: That's him

Sleeper (colloq.): 1. out-of-town hit man who spends the night after a local contract is completed. 2. A juvenile sentenced to serve any period longer than nine months in a state-managed facility.SLEEPERS is the extraordinary true story of four men who take the law into their own hands. It is a searing portrait of a system gone awry and of the people -- some innocent, some not so innocent -- who must suffer the consequences. At the heart of SLEEPERS is a sensational murder trial that ultimately gives devastating, yet exhilarating, proof of street justice and truly defines the meaning of loyalty and love between friends. Told with great humor and compassion, even at its most harrowing, SLEEPERS is an unforgettable reading experience.lorenzocarcaterra.com
Albus Dumbledore, talking to Harry Potter about Voldemort:
"Have you any idea how much tyrants fear the people they oppress? All of them realize that, one day, amongst their many victims, there is sure to be one who rises against them and strikes back"
(Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; JK Rowling)

"Sooner or later the politicians and the bureaucrats are going to take over. They can control the funds and the distribution of their so-called resources, but they can't control the delivery of compassion, can they?"

This is a powerful read with a chilling premise about diabolical doctors (and big pharmaceutical companies).
Quinn Cleary is smart, idealistic and poor. She's been accepted at The Ingraham, a prestigious medical school, completely subsidized by Kleederman Pharmaceuticals, where a select few receive the finest education free of charge.
But something is terribly wrong at The Ingraham. Quinn notices subtle changes in the bright, hand-picked students. Then she stumbles upon the silent, staring patients in locked Ward C.
She and her friend Tim Brown slowly discover the secret agenda behind the brainwashing and the grisly truth of the school's research.

kayo kabataan kayo. nasa inyo ang sigla at lakas ng pangangatawan, at the height of your youth which is above 25, ay napakarami nyong pwedeng magawa. hindi natin maaaring isa-isahin lahat ng magagawa ng kabataan. an enormous energy and the power to do GOD's will depends on each and every one of you. kaya ang masasabi ko, wag nyong gugulin ang inyong kabataan na masayang ito.
